Parade Rules

The Parade Committee has established standards of conduct that are expected of all groups and individuals participating in the parade. The Parade Committee retains the right to review all parade participants, groups, displays, floats, activities, floats, banners, etc. and determine what is acceptable to the Parade Committee. The Parade Committee retains the right, at its sole discretion, to remove any participant/group from the Line of March at any time for any reason.

  • No candy, beads or other items are to be thrown by/from groups, floats or vehicles to the spectators. For the safety of our children and other spectators this rule is strictly enforced.
  • Use of, or public display of, alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited.
  • All participants must join the line of march in the parade lot.
  • Only parade vehicles are allowed into the parade lot. The “drop-off lane” at the edge of the lot can be used to drop-off marchers. Drivers MUST REMAIN with the vehicle.
  • No use of sirens, air horns, Indian tanks, etc. are permitted at any point in the parade (This includes fire trucks, ambulances, etc.).

The parade lot (set-up and staging area) is located behind the Morristown Municipal Building, 200 South Street, Morristown. Entrance to the parade lot is via Franklin Street (off of Elm St.) at the rear of the building.

  • The parade is divided into four Divisions
  • Marchers are staged in the lot in marching order, by Division
  • 9:30 AM, Floats are to be in the parade lot
  • 10:00 AM, Parade Vehicles are to be in the parade lot
  • 10:30-11:30 AM, Marchers are to arrive in the lot
  • Noon, Parade begins
  • Parade Marshalls are located in the parade lot and along the parade route to provide direction and answer questions.
  • Marchers in the parade are not allowed to park in the lot. The area is needed for the Line of March. (Only drop offs in designated lane is allowed – see below)
  • Please note that a drive through/drop off lane is available in the parade lot.
  • No floats or cars will be allowed to be unattended at any time!
  • Only Parade floats and authorized vehicles are permitted in the parade lot on Parade Day. Personal vehicles are prohibited from parking in the parade lot on parade day.

Additional information for groups with floats:

  • Parade Float dimensions may not exceed 16 feet in height, 35 feet long or 8 feet wide.
  • Float must display an appropriate theme pertaining to Irish American Heritage, “Think Irish.”
  • Commercial advertising is prohibited.
  • Parade and organization banners must appropriately identify the organization represented and contain no inappropriate political or commercial wording.
  • Floats should arrive at the parade lot at 9:30 AM on parade day. Parade Marshalls will direct you to the proper area.

Instructions for groups with vehicles in the Parade:

  • Groups must request use of ONE vehicle on the application and be approved.
  • Please present the vehicle permit (issued during the mandatory orientation meeting) to the Parade Marshall at the entrance to the parade lot.
  • Display the permit on the dashboard of the vehicle.
  • All vehicles must be parked in the parade lot by 10:00 AM on parade day.
  • A driver must remain with each vehicle at all times.
  • Construction vehicles are not permitted in the Parade’s Line of March.
  • Vehicles are forbidden to blow horns or sound sirens while the parade is underway.
  • Groups are limited to one vehicle (this includes fire and emergency vehicles).


Failure of a group or their members to adhere to standards, rules, guidelines or direction of the Parade Committee and/or of Parade Marshalls WILL RESULT in your organization not participating in this year’s and/or future events.

Directions to the parade lot:

From Route 80

Take Route 287 South

Go about three miles to Madison Avenue exit

At end of ramp turn right onto Madison Avenue

Go 100” to traffic light, bear right onto South Street

Go past Municipal Building (on right) to first traffic light/Elm Street

Turn right onto Elm Street

Turn onto the first street on the right, Franklin Street

Go 300 ‘ and turn right into the parade lot

Parking is available in various municipal lots, on street parking (not available on the parade route) and near the end of the parade route by Morristown High School. It is recommended that wherever possible, parade participants carpool to the parade site.
